Composer’s Note

Rise was composed as a celebratory work incorporating the United States Air Force Hymn, written for members of the USAF Brass in Blue ensemble. The work begins with a triumphant fanfare that incorporates small fragments of the Hymn tune. This fanfare eventually gives way to a complete setting of the Hymn, which is then followed by three variations of that setting. The work concludes with material from the fanfare, allowing the music to complete an upward trajectory set in motion with the variation set. This final upward motion alludes to the title Rise, but also alludes to the general idea of rising into the sky - fitting for a work celebrating the Air Force.
